ABOUT US
Our troupe is made up of members from Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati, Ohio. We perform at cultural events and festivals throughout Ohio and Kentucky.
Wadaiko Gouken began as a taiko school in 2018. It was founded by Eddie Yates, who trained under sensei Daigoro Aska in Nara, Japan. Aska Gumi is one of the top Japanese drum troupes in the world and Eddie was the only westerner accepted to train and perform with them.
Today, Wadaiko Gouken is a group of dedicated members with a variety of backgrounds and experience levels, united by a shared passion for taiko.

OUR NAME
While the word "taiko" can refer to any type of drum, "Wadaiko" (wah-DIE-ko) is used exclusively for Japanese drums. "Gouken" (GOH-ken) can be translated to "powerful strike." Our group's style reflects that of Japanese performing groups who emphasize physicality and complex rhythms.
